Accra Lions edged Real Tamale United in an enthralling Ghana Premier League matchday 10 encounter on Monday.
The capital-based side edged RTU 2-1 at their makeshift home ground, WAFA Stadium in Sogakope.
Accra Lions came into the contest on the back of a 2-0 loss to Hearts of Oak at the Cape Coast stadium – adding to a three match winless run.
Lions made two changes to the side that lost to Hearts of Oak as Abass Samari Salifu and Frederick Asante got the nod to start ahead of Rauf Salifu and Abdul Rashid Abubakar.
Real Tamale United went into the game without livewire David Abagna Sandan who is on national duty with the Black Stars and was replaced by Stephen Badu Dankwa.
Hagan Frimpong opened the scoring for Lions in the 27th minute following a beautiful cross from Fatawu Hamidu.
Fredrick Asante doubled their lead later in the half to put the home side firmly in the driving seat.
On the stroke of half time, Mohammed Sadat reduced the deficit with a smart finish.
Despite RTU’s best efforts in the second half, Lions remained resolute and held on to record their third win of the season.
The result means that Accra Lions sit in 12th place in the standings with 11 points – three places below Real Tamale United who are in 8thplace with 14 points.
