AS Roma teenager Alex Afena-Gyan has been handed his first senior Ghana call-up.
Afena-Gyan, 18, has featured just twice for the AS Roma senior side during this campaign.
He broke into the first-team and impressed when handed his debut by Jose Mourinho last week. After coming off the bench, Afena-Gyan played his part as Roma clawed back from a goal down to seal victory by the odd goal against Cagliari.
He was then given extra minutes as Roma succumbed to a slim margin home defeat versus AC Milan few days later.
The teenager’s performances in the aforementioned games coupled with his overall displays for the Roma Junior side this campaign have been enough to convince Ghana Coach Milovan Rajevac to invite him to join the Black Stars squad for this month’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.
Afena-Gyan whose popularity has soared this past few weeks will relish the opportunity to link up with Ghana’s established stars and tap couple of good counsel while in camp.
He will also hope to impress Coach Rajevac during training to enjoy some game time during the matches.
The Serbian gaffer has shown his unwavering belief in youngsters provided they convince him.
In Ghana’s last assignment, he handed a first ever start to another teenager Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
