FC Sheriff and Ghana Midfielder Edmund Addo has opened up on what he describes as a “magical night” when his side shocked 13-time Champions League winners, Real Madrid at their home ground.
FC Sheriff against all odds beat Real Madrid by 2-1 on the opening night of the Champions League; a victory that will long live in the hearts and minds of players and fans of FC Sheriff.
Beyond the result, it was also a game where Edmund Addo came under the spotlight as his swashbuckling performance at the heart of midfield was key to FC Sheriff’s success.
Coming up against elite stars such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Casemiro, it would have been very hard for anyone to think Edmund Addo would boss the midfield against the infamous trio who are widely regarded as one of the midfield combos the world has seen.
Edmund Addo however, came up with a midfield masterclass that night and the midfielder, who is in contention for his maiden call-up to the Black Stars has looked back on events that transpired at the Bernabeu and described it as a special moment in his career.
“It was amazing,” Addo told BBC Sport Africa.
“I’m happy I was there. It was very special for me; there was so much joy at that moment.
“When we went there, we went to win. Of course, it was Real Madrid and we respect them [but] we played without fear. It was the biggest game of my career.” – Addo further added.
FC Sheriff are currently top of Group D of the UEFA Champions League and are in contention to make it to the knockout stages of the competition in their debut season in Europe’s elite club competition.
