Following the conclusion of Week 1 of the 2021/22 season, we have ranked the 18 clubs according to a variety of factors.
All participating clubs were scored based on their home or away goals scored or conceded, clean sheet, and red cards.

Week 1 Power rankings
#1 Kotoko
Away goals scored:600
Away goals conceded: -50
Week 1 Points: 550
The Porcupine Warriors began the season on a high note as they defeated Dreams FC in their opening game of the season.
Despite trailing by a goal for parts of the second half, Kotoko came from behind to earn all points by scoring three quick-fire goals.
By virtue of the win, they became the highest scoring team in week 1, earning them a place at the top of the Power Rankings.
#2 Bechem United
Home goals scored: 400
Clean sheet: 100
Red card: -100
Week 1 Points: 400
Bechem United come second on the Rankings despite thrashing Medeama 4-0 in week 1 of the new season.
Despite having a flawless score line, their discipline cost them points, as they were at the receiving end of a red card in the first half of the game.
#3 Ashanti Gold
Away goal scored: 200
Clean sheet: 100
Week 1 Points: 300
Ashanti Gold were among just two sides to win away in the first week of the season.
Their hard fought 1-0 win sees them in third position, largely due to the away goal scored and the clean sheet they kept.
#4 King Faisal
Home goal scored: 100
Clean sheet: 100
Week 1 Points: 200
After surviving the relegation battle last season, King Faisal started the season on the front front against one of the strong opponents in the league.
Despite leaving it late in the game, the Kumasi based side were able to clinch a win while securing a clean sheet.
This earns them a place in the top four of the Power Rankings.
#5 Bibiani Gold Stars
Home goal scored: 100
Clean sheet: 100
Week 1 Points: 200
There is certainly no better way to announce yourself in the top flight division than with a win; and Bibiani Gold Stars certainly achieved that in week 1.
Having secured promotion to the league alongside Accra Lions and RTU, Gold Stars secured a historic 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea.
#6 Aduana Stars
Away goal scored: 200
Away goal conceded: -50
Week 1 Points: 150
Aduana Stars were one of the worst teams on the road last season, but began the season on a brighter note with a 1-1 draw with Karela United.
The away goal scored gives them a huge boost in the first week of the Power Rankings.
# 7 Elmina Sharks
Away goal scored: 200
Away goal conceded: -50
Week 1 Points: 150
Sharks were one of the luckiest teams to escape relegation last season.
They had to fight until the end, as they picked crucial points in their last two fixtures including a win over Kotoko in the last game.
They however started the season with a 1-1 draw with newly promoted side Accra Lions which propels them to 7th on the Power Rankings.
#8 Olympics
Away goal scored: 200
Away goal conceded: -50
Week 1 Points: 150
Great Olympics faced a tricky test in week 1 of the new season playing away to RTU.
Their host had been absent from the top flight for years and were determined for a win and an announcement of their comeback.
Olympics were also determined, however, and were able to secure a crucial point from the North.
#9 Legon Cities
Clean sheet: 100
Week 1 Points: 100
After struggling in the league last season, Legon Cities were very much aware of the importance of starting the season on a front front against Accra Hearts of Oak.
Playing against the defending champions in the first game of the season was meant to be tough, but Maxwell Konadu and his boys should resilience to secure an away point.
#10 Hearts of Oak
Clean sheet: 100
Week 1 Points: 100
Accra Hearts of Oak only scored for clean sheet in Week 1 of the Power Rankings and are placed in 10th position.
The defending champions were tipped as the favorites for the fixture but were unable to find an opening against a determined Legon Cities side.
#11 Accra Lions
Home goal scored: 100
Home goal conceded: -100
Week 1 Points: 0
Accra Lions despite their brave effort and decent effort in week 1 of the new season receive no point in the Power Rankings.
Their home goal was cancelled out by Elmina Sharks who scored more points as a result of the away goal criteria.
#12 Karela
Home goal scored: 100
Home goal conceded: -100
Week 1 Points: 0
Karela United began life without Diawise Taylor with a 1-1 draw against Aduana Stars in week 1 of the new season.
#13 RTU
Home goal scored: 100
Home goal conceded: -100
Week 1 Points: 0
Real Tamale United made their return in the Premier League against Olympics but were unable to make quite an impact.
A goal scored and conceded means that the Northern side earn no point in Week 1 of the Power Rankings.
#14 Berekum Chelsea
Away goal conceded: -50
Week 1 Points: -50
Berekum Chelsea were one of the losers of Week 1 in the new season.
They suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of new side Gold Stars and thus score a negative figure in the Power Rankings.
#15 Eleven Wonders
Home goal conceded: -100
Week 1 Points: -100
Just like Chelsea, Eleven Wonders suffered a slim defeat in week 1 of the new season.
They however suffer a larger point deduction as they lost at home.
#16 WAFA
Away goal conceded: -50
Red card: -100
Week 1 Points: -150
Last season’s third place side had a rough start to the season, losing 1-0 to King Faisal in week 1 of the new season.
The away goal conceded was not the only source of their points deduction but also and points deducted for the red card they received in the second half of the game.
#17 Dreams FC
Home goal scored: 100
Home goal conceded: -300
Week 1 Points: -200
Despite taking the lead in the first game of the season, Dreams FC went on to concede three goals within a few minutes.
In all of the 9 matches played in week 1, they conceded the 2nd highest number of goals and the highest number of goals conceded by a home team.
#18 Medeama
Away goals conceded: -200
Week 1 Points: -200
On opening day, Medeama had no answers to the questions posed by Bechem United, who run riot on the day.
Two goals in each half ensured that new coach Ignatius Osei could not pick anything from his first game.
They are the last ranked team on the Power Rankings.
FMIG’S ALGORITHM FOR THE GPL 21/22 CLUB POWER RANKINGS
All 18 clubs in the Ghana Premier League will be scored and ranked after each match week using a plethora of factors.
Accumulated points for each week will be added to the previous one till the end of the season, where the team with the highest number of points will be crowned as the winner.
Below is the criteria and their respective scores.
Home teams
Scoring
Separate points will be awarded to teams depending on the number of goals they score at home
- Scoring 1 goal home gives a team 100 points
- Scoring 2 goals home gives a team 200 points
- Scoring 3 goals home gives a team 300 points
- Scoring 4 goals home gives a team 400 points
- Scoring 5 goals home gives a team 500 points
Conceding
Separate points will be awarded to teams depending on the number of goals they concede at home
- Conceding 1 goal at home means a club is deducted 100 points
- Conceding 2 goal at home means a club is deducted 200 points
- Conceding 3 goal at home means a club is deducted 300 points
- Conceding 4 goal at home means a club is deducted 400 points
- Conceding 5 goal at home means a club is deducted 500 points
Away teams
Scoring
Separate points will be awarded to teams depending on the number of goals they score away
- Scoring 1 goal away gives a team 200 points
- Scoring 2 goals away gives a team 400 points
- Scoring 3 goals away gives a team 600 points
- Scoring 4 goals away gives a team 800 points
- Scoring 5 goals away gives a team 1,000 points
Conceding
Separate points will be awarded to teams depending on the number of goals they concede away
- Conceding 1 goal away means a club receives a deduction of -50 points
- Conceding 2 goals away means a club receives a deduction of -100 points
- Conceding 3 goals away means a club receives a deduction of -150 points
- Conceding 4 goals away means a club receives a deduction of -200 points
- Conceding 5 goals away means a club receives a deduction of -250 points
Clean sheet (s)
- A club earns 100 points for keeping a clean sheet in a single game
- A club earns 200 points for keeping 2 consecutive clean sheets
- A club earns 300 points for keeping 3 consecutive clean sheets.
Discipline
Red card
If a team has 1 player receiving a red card card in a game, the team is deducted -100 points
If a team has 2 players receiving red cards in a game, the team is deducted -200 points
Form factors
These are points that will be added or deducted to the points earned in each week.
Consecutive away wins
- If a team wins two consecutive away games, the team is awarded 200 points
- If a team wins three consecutive away games, the team is awarded 300 points
- If a team wins four consecutive away games, the team is awarded 400 points
Consecutive home wins
- If a team wins two consecutive home games, the team is awarded 100 points
- If a team wins three consecutive away games, the team is awarded 150 points
- If a team wins four consecutive away games, the team is awarded 200 points
Consecutive home defeats
- If a team is defeated in 2 consecutive home games, the team suffers a deduction of -50 points
- If a team is defeated in 3 consecutive home games, the team suffers a deduction of -75 points
- If a team is defeated in 4 consecutive home games, the team suffers a deduction of -100 points
Consecutive away defeats
- If a team is defeated in 2 consecutive away games, the team suffers a deduction of -20 points
- If a team is defeated in 3 consecutive away games, the team suffers a deduction of -30 points
- If a team is defeated in 4 consecutive away games, the team suffers a deduction of -40 points
Consecutive general wins
- If a team wins two consecutive games, whether home or away, the team is awarded 30 points
- If a team wins three consecutive away games, whether home or away, the team is awarded 45 points
- If a team wins four consecutive away games, whether home or away, the team is awarded 60 points
Consecutive general defeats
- If a team is defeated in 2 consecutive games, whether home or away, the team suffers a deduction of -30 points
- If a team is defeated in 3 consecutive games, whether home or away, the team suffers a deduction of -45 points
- If a team is defeated in 4 consecutive games, the team suffers a deduction of -60 points
