Accra Hearts of Oak dropped points at home as they kicked off their Ghana Premier League title defence with a 0-0 stalemate against Legon Cities on Sunday.
The keenly contested match day one fixture saw both teams failing to put the ball at the back of the net as the game ended goalless.
The Regional derby which was played at Accra Sports Stadium saw defense triumph over attack as both teams settled for a point.
The Premier League champions began the match brightly and nearly took an early lead but were denied by a great goal-line clearance from Issaka Mohammed.
The Royals recovered from their slow start and almost broke deadlock through Jonah Attuquaye whose shot forced a decent save from Richard Arthur in the 17th minute.
The best chance of the half however fell to the Phobians but a brilliant stop from Eric Ofori Antwi ensured the game stayed at 0-0.
After the recess, both teams continued to trade blows in midfield with Hearts of Oak attackers in particular guilty of profligacy in front of goal.
Coach Samuel Boadu tried to shake things up by introducing Ansah Botchway, Patrick Razak, as well as Enoch Asubonteng from the bench, but it just wasn’t to be.
The game finished goalless and Hearts will now look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Sogakope to face WAFA next weekend.
