Ajax Head Coach Erik Ten Hag has disclosed the club supported Kudus Mohammed during his difficult spell on the sidelines.
Kudus has endured a difficult spell in his short spell at the Dutch Giants suffering several injuries which has kept him in and out of the side.
The midfielder was only able to rack up 17 appearances of which included eight starts during his maiden season i.e. the 2019-20 league season. Kudus however, ended his first season on a high after returning from the treatment table to win the double with the Dutch Giants.
While many Ajax supporters who were only able to get glimpses of the midfielder’s dazzling abilities were hopeful of a phenomenal second season, Kudus Mohammed’s start to the second season was blighted by another spell on the sidelines following an injury he sustained during pre-season.
The Ghanaian midfielder is however back on the green field and announced his return in grand style as he was on the scoresheet in Ajax’s big win over Fortuna Sittard.
Manager, Erik Ten Hag expressed delight at the midfielder’s return and admitted it’s been a difficult period for Kudus, but the club have been with him through it all.
“It’s been a nightmare for the boy – getting to a new club and getting injured in the first minutes of the first Champions League match. It affected him all season,” Ten Hag said, as reported by Tipsbladet.
“Then he started a new season in a good mood, and then he got another ugly injury in mid-July, and you are behind the others again. He is an introverted boy who quickly becomes isolated.
“We did everything we could to help him through it. To some extent, he has succeeded, but fortunately, he has also done a lot himself. However, it is an annoying process, so it was good that he scored.”
Kudus marked his return to Ajax’s first team with a goal in his side’s 5-0 victory over Fortuna Sittard.
