FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Nigeria to a rousing welcome from WAFU B President Kurt E. S. Okraku ahead of the opening match of the Aisha Buhari Invitational Women’s Football Tournament.
The Ghana FA Chief was part of a high-profile delegation including CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick who received Gianni upon his arrival in the West African Country.
Several football leaders across Africa have also arrived in Nigeria for the competition meant to honour the First Lady of Nigeria, Hajia Aisha Buhari.
Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Mali, Morocco and host Nigeria will compete in the Tournament which runs from from 13th – 21st September 2021.
The Tournament is meant to be an annual event to give the top Women’s national teams of Africa the chance of playing against each other in the off season to keep them active.
Dubbed ‘Playing for Good’, the six nations tournament is been organized in conjunction with the Aisha Buhari Foundation to build and sustain positive narratives about Women football on the continent.
The tournament will also be used by all participating teams to prepare for the pending Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.
