Enterprising Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashmeru has been handed a massive opportunity by Ghana coach CK Akonnor as he makes his debut against South Africa in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier on Monday.
The former WAFA star was part of the team that beat Ethiopia by a lone goal on Friday but was not given a shot in the game by coach Akonnor.
Following impressive displays at training and with the team depleted by COVID-19 restrictions, the youngster has been handed a massive responsibility to drive the midfield of Ghana.
The new Anderlecht boy has been knocking on the doors of the Black Stars since 2018 when he featured for RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League clashes with Real Madrid and Liverpool.
But then manager Kwasi Appiah never gave him a look until the appointment of CK Akonnor who has demonstrated confidence in the boy.
The game will be a massive opportunity for Majeed to steal a regular slot in the team following Ghana’s poor display in the first game against Ethiopia.
Ghana are already on top of the group with 3 points after the win over the Walia Antelopes and will fancy a win or a draw to keep their stay on top of the table.
