Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah has been handed his first start for the Black Stars after two years after being named in the starting XI against South Africa in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday.
The 31 year old has been named alongside Alexander Djiku at the heart of the defense following the absence of Daniel Amartey
Mensah last appearance for the Black Stars was in a 0-0 stalemate against Cameroon during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Columbus Crew defender will be determined to prove his worth to CK Akonnor as this will be the first time he will be playing under the Black Stars coach.
After winning their group opener against Ethiopia by a lone goal and a good score line against South Africa will facilitate the chances of the Black Stars of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
Jonathan Mensah will be making his 66 appearance for the senior national team at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
