Ashantigold defender, Frank Akoto says Appiah McCarthy’s injury affected the club despite having a good start to the 2020/2021 season.
McCarthy scored three goals in the opening 10 games and was the club best player before picking up a serious Injury against Legon Cities which ruled him out for the reminder of the season.
The Miners since had a difficult campaign finishing 9th on the league log with 45 points and also lost in the FA Cup final to Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Otec FM on the season, Akoto reveals AshantiGold SC had their season turned after the injury of mercurial midfielder Appiah McCarthy in the early stages of the season.
“Honestly, Appiah MacCarthy’s injury cost us a lot because he controls our midfield and also driving the team forward at the start of the season,”
“His injury cost us a lot but some players picked up during the season and his absence wasn’t felt too much since then”.
Appiah McCarthy’ is expected to be back for the Miners before the start of the 2021/2022 season.
