Ghana U20 deputy skipper Uzair Alhassan has departed for the Netherlands where he is set to commence a new life with FC Utrecht.
Uzair played for Tamale Utrecht Academy, a subsidiary of the Eredivisie side where he started his career as an U10 player.
Following the agreement between the two clubs, Uzair is joining the side as a continuation from the feeder club in Ghana.
Uzairu , 18, is expected to officially sign his contract in the coming days, before a possible loan deal to an unnamed club in Germany.
It is understood the former U-17 captain would get opportunities at Utrecht but would entertain a loan move to develop.
Alhassan Uzairu has transitioned perfectly in his development after graduating from the U-17, U-20 and now with the U-23 national team, the Black Meteors.
The Ghana youth player was pictured at the Kotoka International Airport with former Tamale Utrecht Football Academy CEO on Saturday.
He arrived on Sunday morning in the Netherlands and is expected to start training in the coming days.
“The chance to come here and play in the Eredivisie is something I couldn’t turn down,” Uzair told sports24online.com in Tamale.
“There is a lot more that I want to achieve in my career and I know I’m joining a squad full of young players who will all have the same determination to develop,” he added.
Uzair was a member of the Ghana U20 side that won the 2020 WAFU Championship in Benin and went on to win the 2021 AFCON in Mauritania.
