Midfielder Emmanuel Nettey has revealed that Hearts of Oak were able to win the Ghana Premier League title by applying the values of teamwork, love and prayer along the campaign.
Hearts have been crowned league champions for the first time since 2009 in what has been a difficult campaign. The Phobians started the season poorly and had to make 3 different coaching changes to chalk this feat. Samuel Boadu who masterminded this achievement due to his tactical nous was only the fourth appointment this season, with the likes of Edward Odoom, Kosta Papic and Samuel Nii Noi all playing roles.
The Topsy turvy start however enjoyed some stability and good form under Boadu’s tutelage as Hearts embarked on an unbeaten run to wrap up the title with a game to spare.
Speaking with Asaase Radio in an interview, Nettey has credited the success the team has chalked to “Teamwork, love and praying to God”.
He said “Teamwork in the sense that we came together as a team. I have abbreviated team to ‘Till Everyone Achieves More’. So we had to come together as a team, forget about our individual brilliances and play for each other and the colors of Accra Hearts of Oak and God being on our side we kept praying to him whilst taking our trainjbgs seriously and that helped us achieve this feat.
On winning the title, his first as a professional player, Nettey described the feeling as great and was highly appreciative of God’s help in all this.
“It feels great. It feels very good being a champion in the Ghana Premier League,” he said. “At Hearts of Oak, we know what we’ve been through for God knows how long and then finally we’ve been able to break that long jinx. We are so happy happy, we are so glad, we walk shoulders high thanking God for helping us achieve this feat,” he concluded.
For winning the league, Hearts of Oak will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League.
