Ghana Champions Hearts of Oak will be representing Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League following their triumphant clinching of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title.
The Phobians will be making a return to the continent’s elite soccer competition after almost a decade’s absence.
The Phobians have been crowned winners of the Ghana Premier League after a 1-1 stalemate with Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The draw with Liberty Professionals stretched their lead on top of the table to 4 points after close contenders Asante Kotoko lost by 2-1 to Bechem United.
Hearts, former winners of the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and Super Cup, will represent Ghana in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League following their success in the Ghana Premier League.
Hearts’ last appearance in the continental showpiece was in 2015, led by the late Herbert Addo.
The Phobians were eliminated by Tunisian giants Esperance just before the group stage.
Before that Hearts had represented the West African powerhouse in the 2009/10 edition of the continental first-tier club competition but got knocked out of the competition before the group stages.
The Phobians won the CAF Champions League in 2000, The CAF Super Cup in 2001 the Confederation Cup in 2004.
