Accra Hearts of Oak have reclaimed top spot in the Ghana Premier League, thanks to the 2-1 win they secured away from home against Legon Cities this evening.
The Phobians lost the first spot after Kotoko defeated Karela United yesterday but a crucial victory has ensured their return to the top of the table.
All three goals were scored in the first half, with the Phobians scoring the first two before Legon Cities secured a consolation late in the first half.
Accra Hearts of Oak were as confident and as stylish as they have been under Samuel Boadu in the past seven games in the Premier League and were rewarded for that with two beautiful goals.
While Kwadwo Obeng Jnr will take the plaudits for giving the Phobians the lead in the 28th minute, it is Afriyie Barnieh who created a piece of magic to make that happen.
Receiving the ball deep inside the penalty are of the host, Barnieh skillfully went past two Legon Cities who were all but lost as the playmaker placed the ball in front of Obeng Jnr to slot home into an empty net.
Ansah Botchwey then doubled the lead for the league leaders after Legon Cities failed to clear a corner kick far away from their zone.
Their inability to clear their lines presented Ansah Botchwey who was right on the edge of the penalty box the perfect opportunity to fire a low and unstoppable strike through a host of bodies into the net.
Victorien Adebayor then secured a consolation goal for the hosts after his beautifully curled free kick beat Richard Atah at the far post.
The second half of the game was evenly balanced as both sides failed to add to their tally, resulting in a victory for the Phobians.
Hearts of Oak are now level on points with Kotoko whom they play next on Sunday in what could be a decider for the Premier League trophy this season.
