After picking up just a point from their last 3 games, Accra Great Olympics have now found themselves in a complicated situation, as they face stern competition with other clubs for a spot in the top 4 this season.
Annor Walker’s side were tipped as on of the favorites for the Premier League title this season alongside Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Medeama, but a poor run of form has seen that ambition fade quickly.
Facing less superior opponent in King Faisal, Olympics were expected to pick all the three points in week 29, but they ended up recording a shocking defeat at the hands of the relegation threatened side.
The defeat allowed the likes of Karela United and Dreams FC to leapfrog them.
Olympics’ only consolation, however, is that the margins between themselves and the aforementioned clubs are extremely close.
They are currently on 45 points in 6th place, the same tally of points as Dreams FC who are immediately above them and Medeama and Karela FC who are also on 46 points each.
Olympics, thus, have a good chance of reclaiming their spot, but will have to put in good and consistent performances in the rest of the season’s fixtures, starting against against Bechem United on Wednesday.
Sunday’s opponents will be coming into the game on the back of a 2-0 win against Berekum Chelsea which will undoubtedly give them a huge boost.
But despite that win, Olympics will be a different test altogether, particularly considering Bechem United’s poor form away from home.
Bechem United currently have an away Point Per Game (PPG) of 0.36 as compared to Olympics’ home PPG of 2.00
Based on statistics for the season, therefore, Olympics stand a greater chance of emerging as victors in the match up.
