The 2020/2021 edition of MTN FA CUP is turning out to be the most exciting in recent years given the surprises and level of competition.
As many as 9 Division two teams, 11 Premier League Clubs and 12 Division One Clubs are competing for the Cup.
According to Hon Wilson Arthur, Chairman of the FA Cup Committee, Cities with standard facilities are invited to bid for the opportunity to host this prestigious event on Sunday 8th August 2021.
Cities are to put in bid proposals detailing motivation, legacy expectations and, plans to leverage the tourism business opportunities as well as support for participating clubs.
In the recent three editions of MTN FA Cup Finals, Sekondi Takoradi, Cape Coast and Tamale cities put up splendid hosting support to establish the FA Cup finals as the highlight event on the soccer calendar in Ghana.
Potential cities likely to put in a bid include Ashanti regional capital Kumasi,, Ghana’s mining city Obuasi, Cape Coast, Accra and Tamale.
The Essipong stadium – built ahead of the 2008 Africa Cup Of Nations – is currently undergoing refurbishment and won’t be ready by August this year so twin city Sekondi-Takoradi may not have the pitch facility to put in a competitive bid.
The winner of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup will not only lift the prestigious Cup with cash prize of GHS 80,000 but gets to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup Tournament plus additional amount of gh100,000 for preparation for the international assignment.
