South Korea’s U24 side have added to the ailing wounds of Ghana’s U 23 side, the Black Meteors, beating them 3-1 in a friendly on Saturday morning.
Ghana copuld only pull a consolation in the second half after South Korea took the lead in the first half and added two in the second to end the game 3-1.
With a man down on the 38th minute, expectations were that Ghana could take advantage of the numerical disadvantage of the Koreans but that was never to be.
A 76th minute strike from substitute Samuel Obeng Gyabaah was the only goal for Ghana in a game that left many Ghanaians disappointed.
Ghana has since conceded 13 goals in 3 games with only a goal to their advantage.
Below is the player rating of the Black Meteors after their 3-1 defeat to South Korea.
- William Essu (GK) – 3/10
The U20 goalie did not have a good game. Conceded 3 goals against 10-man South Korean side. His defensive organization was poor and struggled in defending against set pieces. Could have done better in conceding the two second half goals.
- Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye – 4/10
Was good offensively but poor defensively. Looked dangerous moving forward with the ball but his recovery rate was poor. Could have done better.
- Moro Ibrahim – 3/10
Not the best of games for the Asante Kotoko defender. Struggled to hold his man down and could hardly initiate attacks. More room for improvement if he should maintain his position in the team.
- Frank Assinki – 2/10
He was the poorest link in the Black Meteors defence. Struggled to defend set pieces. Could have done better with the goals Ghana conceded. He looked the weakest link in the team.
- Frank Amoabeng – 2/10
Together with Assinki, they failed to defend from the flanks. His poor marking led to Ghana’s first goal and poorly defended the South Korea free kick that led to their 3rd goal. A lot needs to be done on him to improve.
- Emmanuel Essiam – 3/10
Dude hardly moved forward with the ball. Spent time always drifting back with the ball. His back passing looked dominant than his forward passing. He needs to work a lot on his offensive play. He was not combative too.
- Osman Bukari – 3/10
Flattered to deceive. He started the game with a lot of energy and promise but ended up being unproductive. Not a good game from the winger. He could have done better.
- Abdulai Sabit – 3/10
His role was not clearly defined in the team. He’s the reason Ghana had a hollow midfield. He could hardly tailor the game together.
- Joselpho Barnes – 2/10
Not much was seen from the Schalke 04 B striker. He hardly got a shot on target. Could not impose himself on the South Korea defenders and was never a threat.
- Frimpong Boateng – 2/10
Clearly the King Faisal midfielder did not know what he was to do on the field. He failed to play offensive and was one of the reasons why Ghana could not attack South Korea. Not a good game for the diminutive midfielder.
- Kwame Afriyie Poku – 2/10
Not much was seen from the England-based winger. Did not add more in attack for Ghana and never threatened the South Korea defenders.
SUBS
- Gyabaa Samuel Obeng – 4/10
Came from the bench and played well. He got the only consolation in the game for Ghana. Perhaps, he should have come on earlier.
- Percious Boah – 3/10
Came on from the bench and got one shot on target for Ghana, though feeble. His inclusion brought some urgency in attack for Ghana.
- Jonah Attuquaye – 3/10
His swiftness was a problem for the Koreans to deal with. Came on a bit too late but teamed up with the other two substitutes to create a better attack for Ghana.
