Arsenal star Thomas Teye Partey has joined Ghana camp following the team’s return from Morocco ahead of their international friendly with Ivory Coast.
Ghana plays the Elephants of Ivory Coast in an international friendly on Saturday at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The Arsenal star was excused from the Black Stars’ trip to face Morocco on Tuesday in Rabat after he was granted permission to sort out some personal issues.
Contrary to reports in the media ahead of the trip to Morocco that Partey has been sacked from camp, Ghana coach Charles Akonnor disclosed that the midfielder secured permission to be excused for Tuesday’s friendly against the Atlas Lions.
”Thomas travelled to Cape Coast on Thursday to meet Coach Charles Akonnor over some personal issues. After the meeting which lasted for about an hour, the Coach excused him from the trip to Morocco – and asked him to report to camp for the second game against Ivory Coast” a statement from the Ghana FA reads.
“As the 1st Deputy Captain of the Black Stars, Thomas later joined his colleagues in training to show solidarity and support before leaving for Accra.
“The Arsenal midfielder will therefore team up with the rest of the squad on Thursday when the team returns from Morocco” the statement concluded.
Following the team’s arrival in Ghana on Wednesday, Partey turned up at the Black Stars training at the Robert Mensah Stadium as preparations began for the game against the Ivory Coast.
He is expected to start the game against Ivory Coast as there are huge expectations of the side’s performance after a good show against Morocco on Tuesday.
