Match Week 28 of the Ghana Premier League commences with a Western Regional Derby on Saturday, as Medeama SC welcome Karela United to Tarkwa.
The Akoon Park will serve as the venue when the Mauve and Yellows welcome their regional rivals for this encounter.
Medeama SC Coach Yaw Preko has been in hot water these past few weeks and will eye getting some respite by winning this one. A poor run of form has seen his side pace out of the title race with Hearts of Oak now sitting top of the pile. In their last five matches, the Tarkwa-based side have managed just one win, losing thrice in the process. Along this stretch they have scored just 2 goals while conceding an alarming 7 goals.
Following their embarrassing 3 nil defeat to relegation battling Inter Allies last week, some incensed fans threatened to make life hellish for Coach Yaw Preko. The beleaguered gaffer needed the intervention of management to carry on with his work with reports rife that he’s been given the next three matches to turn things around and save his job.
This certainly adds to the agenda of revenge (they lost the first round fixture to Karela) for Medeama to indicate how serious they will approach this fixture.
While the home side have struggled for form in the last five games, the grass looks more green on the part of visiting Karela United.
In their last five games, Karela are unbeaten, winning 2 and drawing 3 in the process. This run has pushed them to 4th on the table on 43 points ( same as Medeama), trailing league leaders Hearts of Oak by 6.
One big blow for Karela though is the absence of star striker Diawusie Taylor. The league’s top scorer is currently on national duty with the Black Meteors in Japan and his absence will affect their chances.
Medeama SC though will count on the strike duo of Prince Opoku Agyemang and Amed Toure to do damage to the away side.
A win for the home side will see them move up to 3rd on the league standings awaiting results on Sunday.
Medeama vs Karela United is scheduled for 3pm GMT kick off and will be shown live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.
