Former Ghanaian international Abubakari Damba says he’s not in support of the appointment of Dutch trainer Patrick Greveraars as one of the assistant Coaches of the Black Stars.
Last Monday the country’s football governing body confirmed the appointment of the former PSV manager as one of the assistant coaches of the senior national team joining David Duncan to help Charles Kwablan Akonnor.
For Abubakari Damba, the appointment did not go down well with him insisting appointing a local coach would’ve been better.
“We are all advocating and have maintained that we are capable of handling our own affairs. Its doesn’t matter how long its gonna take but we need to identify ourselves.” He told Volta region based radio station Sun City Radio.
“We need to prepare ourselves, we need to build our capacities in other to remain competitors.”
” When Kwesi Appiah was appointed as coach of Black Stars and he said he needed a back up, the opportunity was given to CK Akonnor after having some stint with Ibrahim Tanko and Maxwell Konadu and these were all domestic coaches and they complimented his works very well.
“An opportunity should have been given to our own rather than looking elsewhere. I’m not in support of the appointment of Patrick Greveraars”
Patrick Greveraars has already team up with C.K Akonnor and David Duncan in Cape Coast to prepare for the upcoming friendlies.
The Black Stars are currently camping in Cape Coast to prepare for the two matches against Morocco on Tuesday, June 8 and Ivory in Cape Coast on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
