Asante Kotoko Coach Mariano Barreto has left Ghana for his home country in Portugal, FMIG can confirm.
The club announced the news on Sunday evening indicating that the Portuguese gaffer was set to go for a renewal of his UEFA Pro License and will return on Thursday May 27.
However, contrary information available to FMIG indicate the coach might not return after all.
A deep throat source within the club has hinted that Coach Barreto is unhappy at some developments at Asante Kotoko since joining. Our source mentioned some unfulfilled promises about the payment of his enticement fee.
There are also reports that he’s complained about the number of club apparel he was provided with to use for match days. According to our source, Barreto was provided with just 2, with the former Ghana Coach requesting for more.
Our source goes further to indicate that there are fears within the club’s higher ups that Mariano Barreto might not return contrary to what the club announced.
Meanwhile, FMIG have enquired about these claims from Asante Kotoko. The club has refuted the claims and insist the Coach has no such concerns and shall return on Thursday May 27 as earlier announced.
Barreto was brought on board to take over the Asante Kotoko Head Coach role as a permanent replacement for Maxwell Konadu who was axed in December last year.
As the helmsman, he has a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and a loss in the 9 matches he’s overseen.
Under his tutelage, Asante Kotoko are now joint top on the league log with bitterest rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
