Former Asante Kotoko National Supporters leader, Kwaku Amponsah alias Chairman K5 has stated his opposition to one goalkeeper monopolising the goalpost in the presence of equally good options.
There have been recent calls from some fans of the club that current number goalkeeper Razak Abalora should be dropped for Felix Annan due to recurring mistakes in games.
Abalora, a summer signing has displaced Annan and the other goalies at Kotoko to become the number one choice. After a solid start to life as a Porcupine Warrior, the Black Stars goalkeeper has been found wanting for some of the goals he’s conceded off late.
To pay the price for the drop in his performances, fans have clamoured for Annan to be reinstated as the club’s number one. Others are also suggesting the rotation of goalkeepers to give Abalora some level of competition to keep him on his toes.
In an interview with Silver FM, Chairman K5 has shared his opinion on the matter. Speaking on the Kumasi-based station’s Sports Net program, he said, “Personally, I don’t support one keeper always keeping the post for about ten matches meanwhile Kotoko has three equally good keepers.
“So if the best keeps let’s say five games, he should be replaced with another in the next game,” Kwaku Amponsah opined.
“He then takes over his position in the following game which can also help the team…and that’s my personal opinion.
“It worries when equally good talents doesn’t get the opportunity to keep the post. So if possible, they should be given one or two chances to be in the post. But Abalora is a very good goal keeper,” he concluded.
