Accra Great Olympics’ sweet start turned into a bitter ending as Aduana Stars came back from behind to beat them in a Ghana Premier League fixture on Thursday
Trailing Olympics by two goals with 30 minutes remaining, Aduana Stars mounted a sensational comeback to claim a 3-2 win.
The Dade Boys welcomed the Ogya Lads to the Accra Sports Stadium for this Match Week 24 fixture knowing they had to win to keep tabs with Asante Kotoko. Earlier, table toppers Kotoko had extended their lead at the summit of the table to 4 points.
Coach Annor Walker’s side started with much determination and it paid off in the first half as they took the lead courtesy Maxwell Nii Abbey Quaye.
The goal ensured Olympics closed the half with a lead with confidence soaring high.
Back from recess, Olympics put no foot wrong as they doubled their lead after 56 minutes, this time fr Abdul Munasiru.
However after the goal, Olympics got dizzy and were duly punished by the visitors.
Sam Adams fetched Aduana’s first goal to halve the deficit inside 60 minutes before Bright Adjei restored parity in the 85th minute.
With five minutes remaining and Olympics now awake to their situation, the game got into a hysteria for the home side.
A shell shocked Olympics would concede again after 90minutes when Sam Adams struck his double to give his side the lead for the first time in the game.
Eventually, the away side held on to secure a crucial away win against a stunned Great Olympics side.
The win for Aduana Stars does not only take away the maximum points from Great Olympics but enforces Kotoko’s lead atop the GPL standings with a 4-point gap between them and close contenders; Medeama, Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak.
Aduana Stars with the win increase their point tally to 36 and climb to 7th on the standings.
