Elmina Sharks produced a strong willed cum sterling second half performance to come from behind and win against AshantiGold SC on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
Sharks hosted the Miners in this Match Week 22 fixture desperate not just to win and maintain a recent home run, but also widen the gap between them and the bottom spots.
Before the game, Sharks had won their last three at home and were determined to keep that run going. Ashgold presented a threat though, with the Miners also boasting a decent run on the road.
The Obuasi-based side had not lost any of their away games since the commencement of the second round of the season and the home side knew they had a tricky clash to contest.
Ashgold drew first blood too, indicating their willingness to make life difficult for the Sharks. After a goalless first half, David Abagna Sandan registered his name on the score sheet to give the away side the lead in the 49th minute.
The goal came shortly after the resumption of the second half and put pressure on Elmina Sharks. It was the first goal they had conceded at home since March.
The home team searched a response, and it took them 20 minutes to get the needed one. Ishmael Hammond leveled matters to calm the nerves that had started to build up.
Sharks were buoyed by the equalizer and pushed fervently for another goal. That moment came when Kingsley Braye put his name on the score sheet with a goal. This gave Sharks the lead, for the first time in the game and they held on firmly to ensure victory.
The win sees Sharks increase their points to 29 and lie 11th on the league table. They now have a 6 point cushion on top of the last relegation zone.
Ashgold who were filled with disappointment for not taking anything from the game, are still stuck on 30 points and lie 9th.
