President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt E.S. Okraku has sincerely apologized to Division One League side Real Tamale United (RTU) after some players and officials were brutally stoned by supporters of Nsoatreman FC in week 6 of the ongoing Division One League.
incident which has attracted a lot of attention across the world occurred on Sunday, 7th February at the Twumasi Sports Complex.
The match which started on a sound footing was characterized by acts of hooliganism by supporters of the home team by throwing of stones and sachet of water just in front of the away team bench.
Efforts by some officials of the home side and security to get the rowdy crowd to stop those acts proved futile leading injuries to a players and management member of RTU.
Speaking to the Host of Gbangu Hot Sports, Sey Mubarick, the Ghana Football Association President said the FA is surprised by these incidents given the various leagues have been quite smooth since the season started. He took the opportunity to apologize on behalf of the Association to the RTU family since they have played a big part in the history of Ghana Football, with some of the finest football administrators managing the club.
The FA was represented by the Northern Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhyzo and his Vice Mr. Musah Ibrahim Kessie who empathized with the team and interacted with supporters on Monday. Kurt Okraku lauded the RFA for taking the first step but assured them of the FA’s support.
He stated that football is growing in Ghana and as a matter of fact didn’t expect this kind of picture to be painted by some people as the international communities are paying attention the Ghanaian game.
The FA though has ban Nsoatreman FC from using the Twumasi Sports Complex, the FA president said they would want to retain the Judicial powers of the Football Association and so the issue has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further actions.
