Legon Cities Coach Bashir Hayford has blamed poor preparation for the country’s recent struggles to qualify for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Ghana missed out on the 2021 edition in Cameroon after failing to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit against Burkina Faso, after drawing the second leg 0-0 in Ouagadougou.
The result meant that Black Stars B, whose best performance at the tournament remains second-placed finishes in 2009 and 2014, failed to book a ticket to continental gathering for the third successive time.
“Ghana as country does not set targets for the CHAN tournament and that’s why we are always struggling to qualify, football is a very different game where the team will have to be together for a certain period of time before competing but what do we see here in Ghana, sometimes two weeks preparations and this is not helping our teams at all most expecially our national teams” Hayford said in an interview with Accra-based HOT 93.7 FM.
