Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku was on target again as the Porcupine Warriors extended their unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League.
With his side down by a goal against WAFA, Opoku’s second half goal level led affairs for the Porcupine Warriors who are without defeat in their last 4 league matches played in the post-Maxwell Konadu era.
WAFA Head coach Dr Prosper Ogum Narteh made just one change to his starting eleven to face the Porcupine Warriors with Augustine Boakye replaced Forson Amankwah.
Goalkeeper Boliver Owusu was given the nod ahead of Ferdinand Sabi Acquah.
On the part of Kotoko, Coach Johnson Smith handed Sulley Ali Muniru his first league start while Fabio Gama who impressed on his full debut against Liberty was retained.
The likes of Emmanuel Gyamfi and Patrick Asmah were also handed starting berths while Emmanuel Sarkodie retained his place in the middle of the park.
Asante Kotoko passed the game into activeness but were hustled back by the Academy Boys in the early exchanges.
WAFA started to carve openings in the first ten minutes but Kotoko managed to restrict the home team’s efforts into just shots at goal.
WAFA’s relentlessness will pay of as the leading top scorer in the league, Daniel Lomotey will net the match opener.
The young forward profited from a scrappy situation inside the box to aim a shot into the net.
The Academy Boys took their lead into recess needing the visitors to bounce back.
After the break Asante Kotoko stepped up a gear and started to mount offenses at the WAFA defense.
Subsequently WAFA did not hold back as the two sides traded punches.
Kotoko’s push however will pay off as in-form striker Kwame Opoku restored parity for the visitors.
It was the forward’s 3rd goal in his last two games ensuring the away side had a say in how the game ended.
Eventually the match ended in a stalemate with not teams heading home with a point.
Kotoko now on 13 points lie 6th on the table just one point and one place behind WAFA with a game in hand.
Should they win on Wednesday against Dwarfs, the Porcupine Warriors could climb to the second position depending on the exact result.
