Management Committee Chairman of the Ghana U20 side, Dr. Randy Abbey says he knew the Black Satellites will do well in the 2020 WAFU U20 championship following their triumph in the tournament.
Dr. Abbey, who was supposed to have led the team to the tournament but delegated his Vice, Albert Commey welcomed the team at the M-Plaza Hotel on Monday to officially received them after a successful tournament in Benin.
Speaking to FootballMadeInGhana.com after meeting the team, the GFA Executive Council member revealed he knew the Karim Zito led team has the potential but his biggest worried was the issues of covid-19 heading into the the competition.
“I knew the potential of the team, but then the issues of Covid was my worry so I was just hoping the team will peak at the right time of the tournament.”
” I knew it was an issue that wasn’t perculier to Ghana alone. But I wasn’t as confidence as I should be in normal times.
Randy Abbey also spoke about the final against Burkina Faso.
“In the final game, Burkina Faso started as the favourite, but it’s in situations like these that, you will have a test of character.
“And were the experience and tactics of technical team come to play. It was a team that was improving game after the game. The Niger game is a game we should have won in regulations time if not the bizzare decision by the assistant referee.
” Against Ivory Coast we rested five players so definitely you don’t expect the team to play like the way we played against Nigeria.”
The Black Satellites have since break camp from their base at the M-Plaza Hotel for two weeks and will restart training for the U20 AFCON in 2021.
