Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has promised to settle the per diem of the entire contingent of the Black Satellites following their triumph as the 2020 U20 WAFU Zone B Champions.
The Chief Accountant of the Sports Ministry has disclosed that the per diems will be paid latest by Wednesday.
The Black Satellites defied the odds to win the 7-nation competition hosted in Benin after a sluggish start to the tournament.
Two goals from Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Percious Boah were all that Ghana needed to beat favourites Burkina Faso to lift the trophy despite Kouame Botue putting the Young Stallions in front just 16 minutes into the game.
Following their triumph, the Ghana U20 side has received congratulatory messages from well meaning Ghanaians and institutions with the Sports Ministry pledging settle their per diem soon.
Speaking on behalf of the Sports Minister at the team’s base at the M-Plaza Hotel on Sunday, Chief Accountant of the MoYS, Emmanuel Oteng congratulated the entire team and assured them of all their entitlements soon.
He added that the Sports Minister – Hon. Isaac Asiamah – has assured that the per diem package paid the Black Stars B for emerging champions in the 2017 WAFU Tournament will be replicated for the team.
“Ghana is proud of you and so is the Sports Minister. Congratulations for this wonderful feat and be assured that everything due you will be given to you,” Oteng told the players and the technical team.
“The Minister has asked us to inform you that the per diem package that was given to the team for winning the 2017 WAFU Tournament is the same that will be given to you,” he added.
Leader of the team from the Sports Ministry, Kofi Asare Brako, who doubles as the Special Assistant to the Minister also congratulated the team and encouraged them to make Ghana prouder when they go to the AFCON next year in Mauritania.
The Satellites have been released from camp for the Christmas Festivities and will regroup on January 3 to commence preparations for the AFCON in Mauritania n February next year.
Ghana and Burkina Faso will be representing the WAFU Zone B in the 12-nation tournament to be staged in Mauritania.
