Captain of Ghana’s U-20 side Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has shared his joy at the side’s successful campaign at the recently ended WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship in Benin.
The Black Satellites emerged winners of the tournament after beating Burkina Faso 2-1 in the final game.
Coach Karim Zito’s side put in a spirited display after coming back from a goal down to not just claw back into the encounter but also secure a match winner at Burkina’s expense.
Speaking in the aftermath of the game, Afriyie Barnieh who enjoyed a game of his life has shared his joy at winning what he refers to as his first ever trophy since turning a pro.
“It’s a great joy, because Ghana has never won a trophy in the last 5 years. Personally this is my first ever trophy as a footballer. So I am very happy to achieve this,” he told FootballMadeinGhana in an exclusive interview.
The Hearts of Oak attacker has also revealed what inspired Ghana’s comeback win over Burkina.
“We told ourselves that this game was a make or break affair for us. We motivated ourselves that we needed this trophy to make a mark,” Barnieh remarked.
Ghana together with Burkina Faso have qualified for next year’s CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Mauritania.
