The much anticipated clash between Asante Kotoko and FC Nouadhibou has been called off again for the second time in two days, following an impasse between FC Nouadhibou officials and the officiating officials.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday December 5, but had to be called off when disagreements emerged between officials of FC Nouadhibou and the match referee and Commissioner.
2 players of FC Nouadhibou tested positive for Covid-19 and as such had to be isolated from the team.
The Nouadhibou officials also argued that they had run a separate test on the said players which came out negative.
The ensuing impasse unnecessarily delayed the start of the game and with no resolution in sight, the match officials canceled it and eventually moved it to Sunday.
However, when the time came for the game to be played, the same issues reared its head with FC Nouadhibou unrepentant in their stance that they the two players were negative for Covid-19 and should play.
After further hold ups, the referee and officials called the Kotoko team to the pitch and declared the game a forfeiture.
In this case, as per the CAF regulations, Asante Kotoko have been declared winners and will face Sudanese side Al Hilal in the next round.
