The management of Asante Kotoko has written to the Ghana Football Association to change their home venue for the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
Due to renovation works at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko had to settle on the Accra Sports Stadium for home games in the Ghana Premier League.
However, upon second thought, management has decided to switch venue from Accra to the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium in Tamale (the venue approved by CAF for the club’s Champions League campaign).
The move pending final approval from the Ghana FA’s club licensing board will be a huge relief to the overburdened Accra Sports stadium.
Kotoko were the 5th club after Hearts Of Oak, Legon Cities, Inter Allies and Great Olympics to use the venure for league matches in the 2020-21 season.
The venue also serves as home matches for Ghana’s female teams with 2 friendly games against Morocco already taking place last week.
This means, over 5 games took place on the pitch in the space of 5 days.
Asante Kotoko expects to play their next home game plus future matches against Great Olympics in Tamale.
