Former Asante Kotoko striker Frederick Boateng has revealed the reasons behind the club’s struggles to make an impact in Africa in recent past.
Kotoko, once a dominant force in the CAF inter club competitions have now become a pale shadow of their former self. The Porcupine Warriors were crowned champions of the African Cup of Champions Clubs/CAF Champions League on two occasions in 1970 and 1983.
However they have failed to replicate this level of success in the last 30 years with fans increasingly growing agitated and concerned.
Kotoko have been humiliated by teams relatively not in their class in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup and according to their former striker, the reason behind this is their failure to build a solid team for a long time.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM, Boateng said “the inability to keep players for more years is the reason why Asante Kotoko is not making a positive impact in Africa Competitions. They should also exercise patience with players when the expectations are not met in the first season”.

Boateng joined Asante Kotoko on a two year deal in September 2018, but had his contract ripped apart after barely a year.
The ex-Ebusua Dwarfs and Inter Allies striker’s latest club is Angolan side, Clube Desportivo da Huila.
Asante Kotoko will compete on the ticket of Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League.
