Name: Berekum Chelsea FC
Venue: Golden City Park, Berekum
Nickname: Blues
Head Coach: Hesse Odamtten
Berekum Chelsea FC, previously known as Bechem Chelsea have been competing in Ghana’s top flight since the 2008-09 football season. They secured qualification by virtue of winning the Zone 1 playoffs of the National Division One league.
Founded in June 2004, Chelsea after qualifying to the Ghana Premier League had their name changed to Brong Ahafo FC. This created a brouhaha as there was already a team with the same name. The name change eventually became ineffective leading to the decision to come up with their current name.
The club won its first premier league game 3-2 away at Liberty Professionals and went on to finish at a respectable 6th position in their debut season.
After two seasons in the league, Berekum Chelsea won the premier league title after being heavily financially backed by then Chairman Addae Kyeremeh.
They eventually had the chance to represent Ghana in the CAf Champions League where they made a historic Group Stage appearance in 2012.
Their exploits helped uncover players such as Richard Kissi Boateng, Emmanuel Clottey, Solomon Asante, Gladson Awako, who all went on to become national stars.
The club play their home matches at the Berekum Golden City Park.
