The National Sports Authority has proved a listening body following of the withdrawal of the stadium user fees/charges for the Accra Sports Stadium barely 24 hours after the initial announcement.
The NSA who act as custodians of the state’s sports facilities announced yesterday in a statement the charges for the usage of the Accra Sports stadium in the upcoming season.
In the statement signed by the National Director, Professor Peter Twumasi, the NSA made known that a single usage of the facility will attract a charge of GHC 20,000 and GHC 15,000 for category B and C Matches respectively albeit with a caveat that they were open to further discussions about reviewing the figures.
This attracted severe backlash and after several football stakeholders including the Ghana FA boss Kurt E.S. Okraku expressed their dismay at the development, the NSA after an intervention by the Sports Ministry has withdrawn the charges pending further consultations after which they will announce new charges.
In a new statement issued and signed by Professor Peter Twumasi, the NSA boss stated that “Pursuant to our letter dated 19th October, 2020 with reference number NSA/HQ.5/SF13 on the above subject, management would like to inform you that the said charges of the usage of the Accra Sports Stadium has been withdrawn following consultation with the Sector Minister and also taking into consideration some concerns raised by the affected club”.
The Accra Sports Stadium will serve as host to as many as 5 top division clubs namely Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Inter Allies, Great Olympics and Legon Cities for the upcoming 2020-21 Ghana Football season.
In the case of Kotoko, they will also use the facility for their CAF Champions League campaign.
