Former Ghana National U-17 team captain, Alex Opoku has confirmed doubts over the age of the all-conquering Black Starlets squad at the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Opoku who is now a pastor, has admitted in a radio interview that he was three or four years older than the age he used for the competition.
The Black Starlets won many hearts after their brilliant displays at the 1991 FIFA U-17 tournament held in Italy. They beat Spain in the final by a lone goal with Emmanuel Duah notching the match-winner.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Where are they program, Alex Opoku admitted the Black Starlets team were overaged, although he also mentioned this was a common practice among almost all participants at the competition.
