Ghana coach CK Akonnor has explained his decision to recall Sporting CP left back Lumor Agbenyenu in his latest squad selection for the upcoming friendly against Mali.
The four time African champions, who have been without a competitive game since November 2019 will play the Eagles of Mali on October 9, in Antalya, Turkey as part of the team’s preparations for the AFCON qualifier against Sudan.
Ghana are currently leading the AFCON 2022 group F qualifiers with six points while Mali are topping group A with four points.
Speaking shortly after announcing his 23 man squad for the clash, Coach Charles Akonnor justified his decision to reward Lumor with a recall.
“With Lumor, when we had the chance to play against South Africa, he was invited but got injured and now he is back, fit and that is why I thought it necessary to bring him on board” Akonnor told GFA TV.
Lumor was a member of Ghana’s team at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, where the Black Stars suffered a Round of 16 exit.
At the tournament, he made two appearances, facing Benin and Tunisia in the West Africans’ first and last games in Egypt.
