An elated Ghana Coach, Charles Akonnor has spoken highly of Black Stars new boy Alexander Djiku while touching on what he brings to the table.
The 26 year old defender, Djiku was named as one of 6 new players in Akonnor’s Black Stars squad for next month friendly encounter with Mali.
Djiku born in France, was eligible to represent the French national team as well as Ghana. So after choosing the latter, its apparent Head Coach C.K Akonnor will be felicitous.
“I am personally excited about him (Djiku) at a point in time, we were not sure if he really wanted to come. He didn’t have a problem switching nationality but the decision to come to play. Now he has decided to come and so am very much excited about it.”, a relieved Akonnor told Ghana FA TV.
Djiku enters the national team setup with lots of eyes watching how he impacts the team on the pitch. Speaking to what the player brings to the table, C.K. Akonnor said, “He does bring a lot of competition to the game. He is not only a centre-back but he can as well play a holding role, depending on what area you want to go in terms of when you go on away matches.
“If you want to be more defensive, he is a choice and he brings a lot of experience. I saw him in Strasbourg when I went to watch him play, he was really good and so am personally happy he is coming,” Akonnor concluded.
Djiku will be gunning for a spot in Ghana’s starting eleven or hopefully some game minutes when the clash with Mali kicks off.
