Coaches of Ghana’s junior national teams as well as Women’s teams will soon work under legally-binding contracts, as the Ghana FA awaits the approval of a proposal it submitted to government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Currently, just the Head Coach of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars and his assistants are under contract with the rest only receiving allowances for their services.
In a bid to remedy the situation, the Ghana FA has put together a proposal that will see all national team coaches given contracts and paid salaries accordingly.
This was revealed by the Communications Director of the Ghana FA, Henry Asante Twum when he appearaned on Citi FM’s Sports Panorama Show.
According to him, the GFA has not kept the coaches in the dark on the situation as they await approval from the Sports Ministry.
He told Citi FM, “The teams belong to the state, whatever decision you take has to be in conjunction with the state.
“This is one of the things the President of the GFA tabled before President Akufo-Addo in their engagement.
“The president said it is a good idea, that [he] likes it, and that he’ll take it up but [we should] deal with the [Sports] Ministry.
“We are in constant dialogue with the Ministry for approval. Once that approval is given, it will go back to the office of the president and it will receive green light.
“That green light will give us that authority to now issue out contracts to all national team coaches.
“We have been engaging these coaches, we have made them aware that it is not as if we do not care, it is not as if we don’t care about their conditions of service,” he concluded.
