Mohammed Salisu could get his first taste of English Premier League action when Southampton face Crystal Palace in the opening weekend of the 2020/21 season.
The 21 year old is expected to travel with the Saints to face his compatriots Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp at the Selhurst Park on Saturday 12th September.
The Ghanaian defender who joined the club in the ongoing transfer from Real Valladolid in a deal worth €12m (£10.9m) will be aiming to make a good early impression.
He put pen to paper on a a four-year contract that will keep him at St Mary’s Stadium until 2024.
Ligue 1 side Rennes also showed strong interest in the highly-rated centre-back but Salisu ultimately preferred the move to England.
The financial offer made by Southampton and the possibility of playing in the Premier League are said to have been key in his decision.
