Ending Ghana’s over 30 years AFCON trophy drought isn’t the main focus, Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor has revealed.
After conquering Africa 4 times between 1963-1982, Ghana has suffered heartaches after missing out on the continent’s biggest football trophy thrice.
The Black Stars have been edged twice by Ivory Coast via penalty shootouts (1992 & 2015) and were also beaten by a slim goal by Egypt in 2010.
Ghanaian football lovers are eager to see the back of what seems a football curse with pressure piled on recent coaches appointed to head the team.
Following C.K. Akonnor’s appointment (he replaced James Kwasi Appiah in January), expectations remain same; that the former National Team captain will be the one to end the AFCON trophy drought.
However in an interview with Starr FM, Akonnor has revealed winning the AFCON wasn’t his main focus. He believes rather working on individual players and how they improve gradually is.

I don't want my main focus to be winning the AFCON but rather improving the team. Once the team improves, we'll get there – C.K Akonnor #StarrChat pic.twitter.com/AxaI13Klw1
