AshGold CEO Emmanuel Frimpong’s claim that the club decided against renewing the contract of striker Shafiu Mumuni because he did not fit into the plans of Head Coach Roberto Landi has been brandished as untrue by the Italian.
Shafiu Mumuni’s contract with the Miners run out this year and their failure to get the former skipper to renew means he’s now a free agent; with most clubs after his signature.
Explaining why the club failed to agree a renewal, Emmanuel Frimpong told local station Foxx FM that the coach informed management that the player didn’t suit his system, hence the decision to let him go.
However, Coach Roberto Landi has denied ever making such claims.
In a subsequent interview on Kumasi based Oyerepa FM, the Italian denied ever making such an assessment of the player.
“I don’t know it’s his opinion not my opinion it’s his personal opinion because I have not gotten time to do clear and exact evaluation,” Landi told Oyerepa FM.
“Everywhere in this world the coach has to assess and evaluate the players so I decide on those I like and those I don’t.
“No it’s not my opinion.I know him (Shafiu Mumuni) but I need time to evaluate all the players and take a decision, I need time, that’s the professional way,” he concluded.
Shafiu Mumuni is reportedly edging towards a move to Asante Kotoko.
