Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has hailed Andre Ayew’s mentality after the Ghanaian attacker propelled his side to record an all important 1-0 win against Brentford in the first leg of the Championship Play-offs.
Ahead of the game, the Swans were hoping to take advantage of playing at home against a well organized Brentford side on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium.
Despite creating a lot of chances, the Welsh based club found it difficult to get the breakthrough.
After squandering a penalty in the 64th minute, Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game on the 81st minute to give his side the advantage ahead of the second leg on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media after the game, Steve Cooper was full of praise for the Black Stars skipper who recovered from missing a penalty to score the winner on the day.
Andre has missed a penalty, but brushed it off and raised his game even more, and came off with the goal. To have such an impact and score the goal tells you everything about the mentality he has.
“His mentality is of the highest order, to brush off the disappointing return from a penalty where you fancied him”, the manager said in a post-match interview as quoted by the club’s website.
He continued, “To have such an impact and score the goal tells you everything about the mentality he has. If anything, the miss affected him in a positive way.
“He is really important for us, and what is more impressive with his goalscoring record is that for a lot of the season he has played out wide, and not through the middle”.
Andre Ayew has been instrumental for Swansea City scoring 17 goals for the club this season.
