Jordan Ayew believes the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations was a major turning point in his career as a professional footballer.
Despite Black Stars’ disappointing exit at the hands of Tunisia in the last 16 stage, it was wonderful experience for the 28 year old striker who found a new level in his personal development.
The Crystal Palace was arguably Ghana’s best player at the tournament where he scored two goals in four games, bagging one Man of the Match award in the process.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Ayew describes last year’s Arica Cup of Nations finals as a turning point for him – “to be able to perform like that at a massive, massive tournament was a big relief for me and gave me more confidence,”
it was only after he impressed for Ghana at the continental showpiece that Crystal Palace decided to make their move, handing him a second chance in the form of a three-year contract at Selhurst Park
Ayew has repaid the club’s faith and currently stands as The Eagles’ top scorer for the campaign, having notched nine goals in 30 appearances so far.
He also became the highest-scoring Ghanaian in the Premier League with 25 goals, breaking Tony Yeboah’s previous record.
