Black Queens defender Linda Eshun has described the decision to cancel the 2020 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations as sad and painful.

The Confederation of African Football, CAF took a decision on Tuesday June 30 to scrap the flagship women’s tournament due to various challenges; one of which was the CoronaVirus pandemic.

The situation means senior national women’s teams will have to wait until 2022 for the return of the competition. This is the first time such a development has manifested in the 30 years.

Reacting to this, Linda Eshun who plays at club level for Hasaacas Ladies believes the decision taken by CAF is painful and has denied Ghana a chance to win her first ever AWCON trophy.

“It’s painful, it hurts that there is not going to be AFCON this year which was initially scheduled for November-December due to the CoronaVirus we are not going to have AFCON.

“Probably 2022 that is when we are going to play the Africa Women’s Championship, It’s painful because we were aiming to go to this year AFCON and win some trophy for Ghana but our plans have been changed,” she concluded.
