Effiong Nsungusi has surprisingly taken well to life in Denmark and is enjoying his football since he agreed a move to HB Koge.
After enduring a long wait to join the side due to delays with his paperwork, the young forward had to further go into lockdown in the Scandinavian Nation due to the impact of the Covid19 pandemic.
The hardworking striker finally made his starting debut for HB Køge, after coming on as a substitute against Næstved with twenty minutes to play. He was again in action as his team delivered a great performance against FC Fredericia.
Effiong, who made the move to HB Koge together with Inter Allies teammates Kwabena Kyeremateng and Abdul Nasiru Hamzah noted that the family environment at the club has helped him to settle in despite the difficulties he encountered at the start.
“The first time in Denmark has been a little messy since I had barely arrived before the Corona virus broke out. I managed to join a few individual workouts, but it wasn’t much. So the first many weeks, I have been mainly within. Everyone has been super sweet,” he told Koge website.
“It’s been fun to come to the club and join the training ground. It’s been a bit like coming into a family as the boys have welcomed me, so I’ve felt welcome from day one – and it all peaked with my debut.”
Having settled in is new environment and culture, the bulky forward is also adapting to the regiments of the game and tactical awareness of football in Europe.
Effiong did make an impressive debut when he came on against Naestved on Sunday and provided an assist despite his side losing 2-1. and then enjoyed 90minutes, as he posed a constant threat on Wednesday, where he proved to be something of a mouthful for Fredericia.
“Training under Auri is something different than what I’ve been used to. Of course, I had dreamed that my debut would go differently – and that we could at least get points. But I’m happy to have the chance and help make a difference.”
“I’m a strong player and as soon as my teammates get to know me better, they will be able to use it as well. So continuous training and spending additional time together will make it all the easier and more natural for me to express myself while allowing the team to benefit from my strengths.”
