Former Black Stars striker Anthony Yeboah has revealed he was hesitant to leave Okwahu United to continue his playing career abroad because of the good treatment he was getting in Ghana.
Yeboah was a delight to watch during his time with Okwahu United were he was scoring for fun in the local league.
According to him, he was reluctant to leave the ‘Asaase Aban’ club to Germany due to the numerous gifts and monies he was receiving from the fans after every game.
“I didn’t exactly want to leave because I was enjoying Ghana. Those times after a game for Okawhu United I would walk through Kantamanto and get money from people so I was very proud of myself at the club and didn’t want to go to Germany but Abrah Appiah thought it was a very big opportunity for me.”
Yeboah also disclosed he had difficulties in settling in Germany due to the language, diet and other matters.
“It was very, very difficult to be honest. Everything was very, very difficult for me. The diet, language, weather especially because it was in winter. I found it very, very difficult.”
Yegoala finally settled at Saarbrucken where he scored 26 goals in 65 games. After Saarbrucken, He moved to Eintracht Frankfurt were he wrote his name in the German Football folklore scoring 68 goals in 123 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
Yeboah also finished as the Bundesliga top scorer twice at Frankfurt before moving to Leeds United in England.
