African football great Abedi Ayew Pele has been sharing his experience during his short-lived spell in Qatar at the early part of his professional career.
Pele was transferred from Real Tamale United in 1982 to Qatari side Al-Sadd as a teenager.
Then aged 18, the former Ghana captain who couldn’t cook says this huge deficiency in culinary skills he was lacking made his stay in the Gulf country very challenging.
In an interview with GTV Sports Plus, Pele narrated a sad but hilarious account of how he had to feed on just tea and omelette because he could not cook.
“I was drinking tea and omelette alone when I went to Qatar because I couldn’t cook” he told GTV Sports Plus.
“I was staying in a hotel but a group of Ghanaian students in Qatar told me to request for my own house and they will come there and cook for me.
“I did and was given a whole house on my own. But the students came there only once and never came again. So I was only taking tea and omlet.
“I went to training one day and I collapsed. I was asked and I told them what I’ve been eating and so I was moved back to the hotel,” Abedi told GTV Sports+
