Ghanaian defender Lalas Abubakar says he will keep working hard as he await for his first national team call up.
The 26-year old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Major League Soccer since he was drafted by Columbus Crew in 2017.
After struggling for playing time at Columbus Crew, Lalas in 2019 was sent on-loan to Colorado Rapids were he has since established himself as a key cog in their set up.
In 22 games with him in the starting lineup, they picked up 1.5 points per game compared to 0.7 PPG in the 12 games without him making the club to sign him permanently from Colombus Crew.
According to the player, he spoke to then Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah in 2018 who told him he is in their data pool and when the time comes they will hand him an invite.
“I always believe if you keep playing well, working hard, it’s going to come,” Abubakar said. “I know they’re watching me. In 2018, they told me I was in their data pool and when my time comes, they’ll call me. If I continue to play well, I think I’m going to get a call up”Abubakar told MLSsoccer.com.
