Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), Henry Asante Twum has debunked wide spread reports that the 2019/20 football season has been truncated.
Earlier today, the FA showed appreciation to its various sponsors on their official website and twitter handle.
The tweet saw the GFA thanking its major sponsors namely Puma,MTN,GNPC, StarTimes and Nasco for their support and commitment.
Some media houses interpreted the tweet to mean the governing body has cancelled the current campaign which has been halted since March 15 due to Coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based radio station Silver FM, Henry Asante cleared the air on the matter.
“Disregard any news circulating on various platforms that claims the league has been cancelled. We have never thought of that. What we posted on our online handles is just to show appreciation to our sponsors for standing behind us even in this period where no sporting activity is encouraged. I don’t know why people will twist a simple statement as such.” He emphasized.
When questioned about the actual day FIFA’s 500,000 dollars will hit the account of the GFA, he answered by saying “We are all waiting to receive the money as promised by FIFA to share between the clubs but the exact date remains unknown. We will alert all major stakeholders when it drops.”
